Come join us on Saturday, November 5 from 4:30PM-12AM at the Arneson Theatre and Hemisfair in downtown San Antonio for this free event. There will be live entertainment, henna, food and handicrafts for sale, 2000 floating diyas to be released into the river, a river parade of Indian states, a fireworks spectacular, and a DJ who will spin the latest Bollywood hits for dancing the night away. What To Expect
River Parade of States
The river parade showcases and celebrates the distinct cultural differences among the states within India, each of which has its own traditions, culture, and styles of clothing.
Diya Ceremony- Traditional Candle Lighting and Release
In the beautiful tradition of Diwali in the northern part of India, tea light candles which are placed in bio-degradable leaf bowls are released into the river as you make a wish for peace, health, happiness for all.
Classical Indian Dances
There are about 10 classical dance styles from India. Two of the styles, Bharatanatyam and Odissi, will be presented at Diwali SA 2022.
Folk Dances of India
The folk-dance traditions from 12 states of India will be showcased.
Film Dances of India
India produces more movies than any other country in the world. Movies are produced in almost every state of India in the respective languages of the states. Music and dance play an integral part in the majority of Indian Films. Dances from five different film industries representing 5 states of India will be showcased at Diwali SA 2022.
Fusion Dances
The music and dance of India is growing in popularity across the world. The melding of different cultural traditions creates movement styles that are unique and modern.
Rhythms of India
There are a variety of percussive instruments in India. This energetic performance is a sight to see as much as it is an auditory treat.
Bollywood Zumba
This is a fun, interactive activity where participants are given the opportunity to move to the music of India’s Bollywood films.
Bhangra Dance-Along
Another chance to join in and move to this high-energy Indian Folk Dance form. Once you try it you can see for yourself why it is so very popular across India.
Rangoli Display
Rangoli or Kolam is the traditional floor art that is done in many parts of India. It is often displayed at the front entrance of ahome. These colorful images are made of a variety of materials including colored flour, flower petals, sand, etc. Rangoli art from different parts of India will be exhibited at Diwali SA.
Henna
Popular in the US, but people of ancient India used this form of temporary tattoo for religious ceremonies, wedding festivals, and for simple body adornment.
Sari & Turban Wrapping
Have one of our experts wrap a sari or turban on you so that you can enjoy the festival in traditional Indian attire.
Food Court with Indian Food Vendors
The menu items of the 10 Indian food vendors are specifically tailored to showcase the different cuisines of the various regions of India.

Fireworks Spectacular!
